O'Neill High School Receives Distinguished School Award
1/10/11
O’Neill, NE -- January, 06, 2011 – O’Neill High School is pleased to announce that it has been named an Apple Distinguished School for its successful implementation of its 24/7 Learning project.  The project provides a MacBook notebook computer to each student in grades 7-12 to enhance their learning.  Administration and staff have committed to utilizing technology to focus on the 21st century skills that today’s digital natives will need to be successful in the next stage of their lives. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools that have demonstrated the highest vision of a successful 21st century learning environment.

Steve Brosz, O’Neill High School principal says, “Our school community has been deeply involved with the learning opportunities that the 1 to 1 initiative has presented.  We feel honored and rewarded at the same time to be one of the 52 schools in the nation honored with this distinction.  Our staff has worked hard to successfully implement new technology in their content areas.  Our students have responded with great efforts in their classrooms.” The selection of O’Neill High School as an Apple Distinguished School highlights its successes in enhancing and extending teaching and learning with thoughtful and innovative implementations of technology.

“Putting the technology into students’ hands 24/7 has enabled them to be more creative in the ways they express their learning.  The student projects they have created are astounding,” commented Superintendent Amy Shane.  O’Neill students and staff also have access to iPod and iPad devices to further enhance their learning opportunities.  O’Neill High School is located in O’Neill, NE, a community of approximately 3,700, with a grade 7-12 population of 340 students.  Their 24/7 Learning Initiative got underway during the fall of 2007.

This is a a testament to the great things you are doing for your kids in O'Neill. All schools should look to mimic the atmosphere you've created. Congratulations to all who have helped make it happen!
